Outdoor Showers
Outdoor showers aren’t just a luxury found at exotic five-star hotels or a necessity at your favorite camp site. Having an outdoor shower at your own home can be convenient as well as practical and fun. Here are some reasons you may need an outdoor shower plus some things to consider and a few of your options.
- The kids keep dripping water all over your house as they dash from the pool to the bathroom.
Wet spots on the floor can lead to slips and injuries. Wet spots can also damage hard wood floors.
- People often use your pool after exercising or working up a sweat in the yard.
An outdoor shower would give them a way to rinse off the grime and sweat before entering the pool.
- You would enjoy bathing under the moon and stars—or even in broad daylight!
Arizona weather is so mild that you could use an outdoor shower most of the year.
- You’re looking for a fun new pampering experience.
Why not get clean in the great outdoors?
So of course you would love to have an outdoor shower. What are your options?
There are many models available, from a poolside portable shower for about $80 to a solar-heated pool shower to a wall-mounted shower that provides a spa-like sanctuary outdoors.
Outdoor shower kits are readily available in most big box hardware stores. With some basic DIY skills, you can design and build your own little bit of bathing paradise with some fixtures on a wall, a simple stall, or even by utilizing a tree in your yard. Do some homework and decide on what will work for your needs and your budget as well as your skill level.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
Privacy
If people will actually be bathing outside, privacy is, of course, a top concern. Having an enclosure is essential. Your outdoor shower can be enclosed in metal or wood but some of the fancier options include stone or cedar.
Practicality
You’ll also need to provide a place for their towel (a hook would suffice), somewhere to leave their bathing suit (like a folding drying rack nearby) and a spot for them to retrieve their dry clothes, which could be as simple as a stool or small table. Remember to keep soap, shampoo and washcloths close by, too.
